Landing Pages

Exhibit includes built-in support for introductory Landing Pages. A landing page acts as a full-screen welcome splash that greets visitors before the narrative walkthrough begins, providing vital context, author attribution, and clear calls to action.

Landing pages are enabled by default for all new exhibits, and can be toggled on or off at any time in your exhibit settings.

What's on a Landing Page

The landing page automatically presents key metadata about your exhibit in an elegant, centered layout:

  • Title: The main title of your exhibit.
  • Narrative Description: The full introductory text you provided in your exhibit settings, with formatted rich text, paragraphs, and active links.
  • Author & Rights Attribution: Displays the author's name alongside copyright or Creative Commons licensing terms.
  • Start Exhibit Button: A high-visibility call-to-action button that launches the narrative. The button is automatically focused on page load, allowing visitors to start immediately by pressing Enter.
  • Duplication & Parent Attribution: When duplication is permitted, visitors can duplicate the exhibit to use as a starting point for their own stories. If your exhibit was duplicated from another, an attribution link back to the original exhibit is displayed.

Template Variations

Landing pages adapt to the structure of your chosen template:

Slides, Kiosk, and Quiz

In Slides, Kiosk, and Quiz templates, the landing page is presented as an introductory modal overlay against a darkened backdrop. Clicking Start Exhibit (or pressing Enter) dismisses the overlay and reveals the first narrative slide, question, or media item.

Scroll Template

In the Scroll template, the landing page offers a seamless, scroll-driven reading experience:

  1. When the page first loads, the landing page occupies the full viewport.
  2. As the visitor scrolls down using a mouse wheel, touchpad, or touch swipe, the landing page smoothly fades out with opacity and parallax transitions.
  3. The reader naturally flows directly into the first item and narrative text cards without needing to click a button.
  4. Scrolling back to the very top gently restores the landing page.

Enabling or Disabling Landing Pages

You can control whether your exhibit displays a landing page in the Exhibit Settings:

  1. When creating an exhibit, or by clicking the Settings (pencil) icon in the editor.
  2. Locate the Enable landing page checkbox.
  3. Check the box to display a landing page (recommended for most public stories).
  4. Uncheck the box if you want visitors to land immediately on the first item without an introductory screen.
  5. Click Submit or Save to update your exhibit.
